Brittany Shimono scored 13 points Friday night and the Cowgirls beat Ka Makani 35-26 to move into second place in BIIF Division II.

Kohala (3-5) has regular-season games remaining with Kealakehe (1-7) and Pahoa (2-6) as it tries to avoid the fourth seed in the league semifinals.

Coco Shafer scored nine points for Ka Makani (0-7), who remained two games behind a playoff spot and are in danger of their second consecutive winless season.

Kohala’s JV won 26-19.

The Warriors (4-3) won at home to stay on track for the automatic HHSAA tournament berth in D-II as the regular season champion.

Waiakea 73, Ka’u 16

Underclassmen came through for the host Warriors (8-0), with freshman Keani Midel scoring 12 points, sophomore Claire Kaneshiro 11 and freshman Kelsie Imai 10.

Alysha Gustafson-Savella led the Trojans (2-6) with six points.

Waiakea’s JV won 44-18.

Mikayla Tablit and Cherilyn Molina each made four 3-pointers, and the visiting Wildcats put four scorers in double figures to roll at the Cougars’ gym.

Tablit scored 23 point, Molina had 19 and Tanniya Uchida and Celena Molina each added 12 for Konawaena, which led 59-9 at the half.

Maurice Riingen scored five points for the Cougars (3-5).

In JV, Kona won 54-15.
